| John Dicken is a renouned Chef whose restaurants have always been associated with fine dining and relaxed atmospheres. John's first Essex restaurant was opened in Wethersfield in 1989 and was called Dickens Brasserie . It quickly established itself as one of the first choice restaurants for lovers of great food in Essex.
In January 2000 John became the proud owner of the White Hart in Great Yeldham, located on the Essex Suffolk border. Under John's management the White Hart gained an excellent reputation for top quality food and wines - a reputation that is still remembered today. People travelled to sample the cuisine and many became regulars at the White Hart and loyal followers of John Dicken. During his time at the White Hart John changed the name of his Wethersfield restaurant to Dickens Brasserie which was soon considered by many as the place to eat in Essex. His work at the White Hart in Great Yeldham and Dickens Brasserie in Wethersfield made John Dicken one of the leading and most successful UK Chefs. In May 2005 John sold the White Hart and set about creating a unique restaurant in Halstead . . .
Dickens Restaurant Café Bar in Halstead, Essex continues to maintain the standards customers have come to expect from a John Dicken restaurant. Dickens Restaurant Café Bar is the result of the passion that John Dicken applies to his businesses. Located in the Townsford Mill in Halstead within easy reach from Braintree and Sudbury in Suffolk, Dickens Restaurant Café Bar was completely refitted from the floors up and opened in 2003. Christmas 2007 will be the fifth Christmas for Dickens Restaurant Café Bar and represents another success for John and his restaurants. New customers are always welcome and reservations are recommended as regular customers continue to come and enjoy the dishes created by Chef John Dicken.
